Doctors To Give Prescription In All Capitals
Your doctor will need to write the prescription in all capitals, if the Health Ministry proposal is approved. The Medical Council of India has approved a notification, requiring doctors to write the prescription in capital letters to check illegibility as chemists sometimes give wrong medicines due to similar sounding names of drugs. The notification will come into force after its approval by the Health Ministry.
The legibility of doctors’ prescriptions has been debated for long but of late, the demands for addressing this issue have gathered momentum. Some similar sounding medicines are — Celin (vitamin C) and Celib (celecoxib, for arthritis), Malaquin (chloroquine, an anti-malarial drug) and Mahaquin (lomefloxacin, an antibiotic) and Azoo (azithromycin, an antibiotic) and Azox (alprazolam, an anti-anxiety drug).
